LEAGUE CITY -- Grover M. Hanes, age 83, of League City, Texas, (former resident of Sweetwater, Texas) passed away Saturday, February 18, 2006, at Harbourview Care Center in League City, Texas.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at Roscoe Cemetery with the Nolan County Honor Guard under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Roscoe Cemetery officiating with Rev. James Baker.
Grover M. Hanes was born August 26, 1922 in Roscoe, Texas. He married Jessie Aleta Porter, August 14, 1940, in Sweetwater, Texas.
He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad before retiring. He was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran. He was wounded in the battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart. He was also a member of Broadway Baptist Church of Sweetwater, Texas.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Oakes and Husband Danny of Dickinson, Texas; sister, Rita Cooper and Reba Cooper, both of Roscoe, Texas; grandchildren, Billy Henrich of Seabrook; Pam Thompson of Tyler, Texas; and Steve Woody of Channelview, Texas; and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Aleta Hanes and daughter, Peggy Woody.
Family will receive visitations from friends at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 21, 2006, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
