Funeral Services For Gus Varnell

Died At Age of 87 In Columbia Heights

Funeral services for Mr. Gus Varnell, 87, of Columbia Heights, who died Thursday morning at 6:45 o'clock, will be held Friday (tomorrow) afternoon. Time of services has not been announced.

Mr. Varnell was well known in this parish. For many years he resided across the Ouachita river from Riverton, but several years ago moved to the Perryville community where he resided with his children.

He is survived by six daughters: Mrs. A. J. Poewll [sic Powell] of Columbia Heights; Mrs. Clayton Girod, Transylvania; Mrs. L. A. McPherson of ward 9; Mrs. John Lyris, who resides in Illinois; Mrs. E. B. Battagalia of Monroe and Mrs. Joe Parker of Wyant; five sons: Homer Varnell, Frank Varnell and Doe [sic Doc] Varnell, of Columbia Heights, Homer being Columbia's night marshal; Jimmie Varnell of Monroe and William Varnell of Alexandria.

He is also survived by a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
