Former Parish Lady Died In Bastrop Sunday

Mrs. L. A. McPherson of West Monroe, a former Caldwell resident, died early Sunday morning in a Bastrop hospital after a long illness at the age of 77.

She was the widow of the late Lee McPherson, who served on the Caldwell Parish police jury from ward 8 and also ward 9 quite a few years. The family resided up to the death of Mr. [Mc]Pherson in ward five and nine.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. from the First Church of Christ in Columbia with the Rev. Ruby Robertson in charge.

Burial was made in the Columbia Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riser and Son Funeral Home.

She was the daughter of the late Gus Varnell of ward five.

Survivors include three sons, E. A. McPherson and C. R. McPherson, both of Monroe; and Herman McPherson of Jena; a daughter, Mrs. Minnie Bell Martin of West Monroe; one sister, Mrs. A. J. Powell of Bastrop, 14 grandchildren and also 14 greatgrandchildren.

She is also survived by five half-brothers: Bill Varnell of Alexandria, Homer Varnell of Winnfield, Frank Varnell and Jimmy Varnell of Mt. Pleasant community, and Doc Varnell of Monroe; and two half-sisters.
