Hallie Mae Butler Jones
Hallie Mae Butler Jones, a 55 year resident of San Antonio, died January 14, 2003. She was 84.
Hallie was born on August 26, 1918 in Colmesneil, TX to Elisha Edward Butler and Eula Viola Allen. She was the youngest of three sisters and one brother. Hallie graduated from Colmesneil High School, then attended business school in Houston. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper.
In 1938, she married Reuben E. “Buddy” Jones, and they moved to San Antonio. She continued working until their daughter, Patsy, was born. Hallie will best be remembered for her dedication to her daughter. Whenever a volunteer was needed at school, Patsy's hand shot up with “My mom will do it”. A home room mother for 12 years and an active participant in PTA, Hallie could always be depended on. She also served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader for 6 years. Hallie was always there for Patsy in times of crisis and joy, doing her best to guide her through the difficulties of childhood into adulthood and taking pride in her accomplishments as an adult.
Hallie was one of the first members of Manor Baptist Church. When Patsy was a preschooler and her Sunday School Class needed a teacher, Hallie volunteered. Patsy was promoted, but Hallie stayed for 9 more years. She was active in the Women's Missionary Union; in 1996 they honored her for many years of faithful service, prayer support, and generous sharing. Hallie served on various church committees throughout her life; routinely working in Bible School and the Day Care, visiting shut-ins and helping out with seniors' activities. Somehow she managed to find time to help Buddy with his business.
Following Buddy's death in 1970, Patsy left for college and Hallie re-entered the workplace as a technician in the Radio-Television-Film Dept. of San Antonio College. She retired in 1981 to become a full-time grandmother. Her only grandchild, Lisa, was the light of her life. They were best friends. Hallie was instrumental in guiding Lisa to her decision to accept Christ as her Savior. Her proudest moment was witnessing Lisa's baptism. She was eagerly anticipating her graduation from college this spring.
Hallie was a loving and caring wife, mother, in-law and grandmother. She was also a friend to everyone. She could not go anywhere in San Antonio without running into someone she knew. Hallie will be missed by all her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, whom she adored, Patsy and Emmett Harrison of Austin; her precious granddaughter, Lisa Marie Harrision of Austin; sister-in-law and best friend, Ruby Butler of Port Neches; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Duval Oaks and Merrill Gardens where Hallie lived during the past 6 years. Special thanks to George Robison, MD, his staff and all the wonderful people at Heritage Duval Gardens Nursing Home. The loving care and attention they gave Hallie and our family will never be forgotten.
Visitation is Thursday, 8:00 - 5:00 P.M. and 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Austin-Peel and Son Funeral Home, 607 E. Anderson Lane.
