H. D. Smoke Funeral Held

Funeral services for Hansford D. Smoke, 78, found dead of a heart attack in his room here Saturday, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday at J. Levy & Bro. funeral home.

Rev. Lionel T. DeForest, rector of Grace Episcopal church, officiated. The Odd Fellows Lodge held graveside rites at the City Receiving Vault.

Police found Smoke lying across his bed at 1805 1/2 Market.

A tenant at the rooming house, George Meyers, called police when Smoke did not come out of his room Saturday.

Justice of the Peace James L. McKenna returned an inquest verdict of death due to natural cause following examination of the body by Dr. N. D. Schofield.

Smoke, a resident of Galveston for more than 50 years, was a mill worker for Island City Woodworking Co. until he retired a year ago.

Survivors include a nephew, Walter Smoke, and a [great] niece, Betty Lou Smoke, Galveston.
