Bibb County Sheriff Dies At 52
CENTREVILLE -- Bibb County Sheriff Harold (Duck) Dailey died of an apparent heart attack at the home of his sister, Mrs. Annie Lou Horn, Wednesday night.
Sheriff Dailey, 52, had gone to the Horn home to have supper with his sister and her husband. He had finished his meal and had asked his sister to pour him another cup of coffee.
The sheriff then said he felt as if he were going to faint and Mrs. Horn went to get a wet cloth. He then collapsed and died immediately.
Funeral services will be announced by the Jack Lee and Sons Funeral Home. Complete arrangements were not expected to be made until this afternoon.
Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne and Kay Frances, both of whom are married and live in Dallas County; three brothers and Mrs. Horn.
Dailey had been sheriff for 16 years. Prior to that time he was an appliance and equipment salesman for the Alabama Gas Corp. Earlier, he was connected with the postal service.
He was a Mason and a Shriner. He was secretary of the Masonic Lodge at Centreville.
Dailey had been active in the development of the Alabama Sheriff's Boys Ranch in Dallas County.
Coroner Jack Lee automatically becomes acting sheriff, either until Gov. George Wallace appoints a successor to Dailey or until a successor is elected. Candidates for the office would run in next May's Democratic Primary. Dailey's current term would expire in January of 1975.
