Funerals For Four Accident Victims Held At Shady Grove

Death Saturday night claimed a fourth victim in the Friday night Highway 15 north two-car head on collision, which instantly killed Mrs. L. J. Lyon, Sr., 73, Mrs. Harold D. Hawkins, 50, and Miss Clara Burnett, 18, all of the Shady Grove community of Jones county.

Harold D. Hawkins, 46, driver of the automobile in which his wife and Mrs. Lyon were passengers, died at about 9:30 Saturday night, some 25 hours after the tragic crash.

Joint funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins and Mrs. Lyon were conducted at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon from Shady Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. P. G. Harper and the Rev. Othe Parker officiating.

Interment followed in Shady Grove cemetery with the Thompson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements for Mrs. Lyon and Mrs. Hawkins and Memory Chapel in charge of arrangements for Mr. Hawkins.

Mrs. Lyon was the mother of Mrs. Hawkins. She leaves her husband, L. J. (Lou) Lyon, one daughter, Mrs. Thelma Ousley, Route 3, Laurel; six sons, Carl Lyon, Route 2, Lester Lyon; and Elton Lyon, Route 3, Doyle and L. J. Lyon, Jr., Laurel; and Rudolph Lyon, Lincoln, Neb.;

Seven sisters, Mrs. W. A. Johnson, Mrs. Pearline Holifield, Mrs. Pauline Bush and Mrs. Nettie Riser, all of Laurel; Mrs. Betty Runnels, Magee; Mrs. Mable Hice, Soso; and Mrs. Loma Smith, Jackson;

Five brothers, J. J. Lowe and W. H. Lowe, both of Route 3, J. P. Lowe, Pachuta; L. J. Lowe, Jackson; and Estus Lowe, Memphis; 19 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hawkins leaves a son, David, Shady Grove; one sister, Mrs. Thelma Ousley, six brothers, Carl, Doyle, L. J. Jr., Lester, Elton and Rudolph.

Mr. Hawkins leaves a son, David, Shady Grove; his mother, Mrs. E. D. Hawkins, Laurel; three sisters, Mrs. J. C. Hamilton and Mrs. Roy Montgomery, both of Laurel; and Mrs. N. J. Bourgeois, Baton Rouge; a brother, Paul Hawkins, Dupleses [sic Duplessis], La.
