Harry Earl Savell
Harry Earl Savell, age 72, died peacefully at his home on May 3rd, 2018. Harry is survived by his wife of nearly fifty years, Wanda Gaye Smith Savell; a son, Scott Savell and his wife, Susanne; a daughter Jennifer Savell Duett, and her husband, Brookie; three grandchildren, Savell Duett, Dwayne Duett, and Christian Savell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Harry was born the 10th child of William and Mary Savell, May 18, 1945, in Silver City, Mississippi. He is survived by his brother, Gary Savell of Ridgeland, MS and sisters Joanne Savell Hawkins of Belzoni, MS, Kay Savell of Greenville, MS, Maxine Savell Herring of Dickinson, TX, and Billie Jean Savell Hodges of Kemah,TX. He was preceded in death by brothers, James Merlee Savell and John Clayton Savell and sisters, Barbara Savell Brey, Irene Savell Jones, and Jacqueline Savell Walters.
Harry made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ when he was 8 years old at Silver City Baptist Church. He attended First Presbyterian Church in Belzoni, MS and participated in several mission trips to Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, and Cherokee, NC.
Harry served his country as a Specialist in the U.S. Army for two years which included a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a member of the 577th Engineer Battalion. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal.
He went to work for Twin County Electric Power Association in 1967 as an apprentice lineman and was promoted to lineman in 1970. He was promoted to serviceman in 1990, and to branch manager in 1993. He retired after 44 years of service on May 18, 2011.
He enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, May 7, 2018 with Funeral Services following at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be at Belzoni City Cemetery.
Pallbearers are his Twin County co-workers: Brian Cochran, Jeremy Fuller, Ronnie Neal, Joey Rodgers, Kenny Wolford, and Michael Lang.
Honorary Pallbearers are Johnny Hawkins, Junior Estes, Jerry Gilmer, Brookie Duett, Joseph Walker, Rusty Nixon, and Larry Duett.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church Missions Fund. 201 Pecan Street, Belzoni, MS 39038.
