HARRY S. MECOM DIES SUDDENLY
Brother of Mrs. Walter Culpepper of Monroe Expires Wednesday
Harry S. Mecom, 65, brother of Phillip H. Mecom, clerk of the U.S. district court in Shreveport, and also of Mrs. Walter Culpepper, of Monroe, died suddenly when sitting on a bench on the courthouse lawn in Shreveport Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Mrs. Culpepper was unable to attend the funeral which she stated she believed would be held Thursday afternoon and that interment would be made in Shreveport.
A retired merchant, Mecom had been living in Shreveport for the past ten years. He was formerly employed by the Interstate Liquor Company and was living at the Royal Hotel on Louisiana avenue.
Mecom was talking with some friends on the courthouse lawn when he was stricken. His brother said that he suffered an attack the previous night but had thought that it was indigestion.
Coroner Dr. Willis P. Butler examined Mecom on the lawn before the arrival of an ambulance and pronounced him dead. The coroner said death was caused by a heart attack.
Another brother, Dr. Fred Mecom, died last month at Columbia.
Mecom is survived by four brothers: Philip Mecom, Shreveport; James I. Mecom, Spur, Texas; Dr. William Mecom and Dr. Virgil H. Mecom, both of Wisner, and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Gregory, Columbia, and Mrs. Walter Culpepper, Monroe.

Heart Attack At Courthouse Square Fatal -- Harry S. Mecom, Retired Merchant, Suffers Attack on Lawn
Harry S. Mecom, 65, brother of Philip H. Mecom, clerk of the United States district court here, died of a heart attack about 4 p.m. yesterday while he was sitting on a bench on the east side of the Caddo Parish courthouse lawn.
A retired merchant, Mecom had been living in Shreveport for the past ten years. He was formerly employed by the Interstate Liquor Company and was living at the Royal Hotel on Louisiana Avenue.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at Osborn Funeral Home with Dr. M. E. Dodd, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Arthur Mangham, Leslie J. Farrow, Darrel W. Farrow, Aubrey M. Pyburn, Joseph Flowers and W. D. McGhee.
