Harvey Lee Boyd
Harvey Lee Boyd, 80, died Saturday, February 13, 2010, in a local hospital.
He was a native of Jonesville and had lived in Sulphur for 62 years. Harvey worked for the Sulphur Police Department as a patrolman from 1953 to 1955. He worked for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Department from 1955 to 1980 retiring as Chief Criminal Deputy under the administration of Sheriff H.A. “Ham” Reid, Jr. He later returned to the Sheriff's Office and worked under Sheriff Beth Lundy and Sheriff Tony Mancuso while supervising the West-Cal substation in Sulphur until late in 2009. He founded, owned, and operated Brimstone Services, Inc. (a security company) from 1965 to 2009. Harvey served as President of the Gravity Drainage District #5, Ward 4, Vice-President of the Sulphur Industrial Development Board, President and on the Board of Directors of the West Calcasieu Association of Commerce, and Vice-President and on the Board of Directors of the Sulphur Rotary Club. He attended Truth Apostolic Church in Sulphur and served as secretary and Chairman of the Church Board. He will be remembered as a faithful servant of God, his family, his church, and his community.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Georgia “Tinker” Boyd of Sulphur; two daughters, Taline Bailey and husband, Cody of Colfax, and Von D'Leigh Gully of Sulphur; one son, George Mullican and wife, Kristi of Sulphur; three brothers, Johnny Boyd of Nashville, Tennessee, Wayne Boyd and James “Buddy” Boyd, both of Winnsboro; two sisters, Maxine Mays and Carolyn Griffin, both of Winnsboro; five grandchildren, Matthew Blair, Jason Gully and wife, Cheree, Justin Gully, Kala Gully, and Morgan Mullican; three great-grandchildren, Gavin Slinker, Leighann Gully, and Kole Vidrine; and his step-mother, Gertrude “Sis” Boyd.
He is preceded in death by his father, Lee Boyd; his mother, Ethel Parker; and his brothers, Billy Boyd and Charles Boyd.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, in Truth Apostolic Church. The Revs. Joe Johnson, Bob Stark, and Jake Mullican will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday, all in the church.
