H. P. Cottingham

SELMA, ALA., Feb. 16. -- (Special) -- Injuries which he suffered several weeks ago on his farm near Centerville claimed the life of Harvey P. Cottingham, 67, Thursday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Wallace, in Selma. Mr. Cottingham was thrown from a wagon three weeks ago when a team of mules drawing the vehicle bolted and ran away.

A former member of the Selma Police Force, Mr. Cottingham was forced to resign from his duties as an officer in 1936 when he was struck by an automobile near his home on the Montgomery highway a short distance from the city. After partially recovering from the accident Mr. Cottingham returned to his native Bibb County, where he had farming interests. Some years ago he was connected with the State revenue department. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Cora W. Cottingham; the daughter, Mrs. Wallace, of Selma; three sons, P. Caldwell Cottingham, of Selma, John P. Cottingham, of Greenville, and H. P. Cottingham Jr., of Bibb County.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from the chapel of Breslin-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Bilbro, Methodist minister, of Centerville, officiating. Burial will be in New Live Oak cemetery.
