Rites Held For Shaw Infant Of Krotz Springs

MELVILLE -- Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for the infant of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Shaw of Krotz Springs who died at birth earlier that morning.

Mrs. Shaw, who was 90 per cent burned when cleaning fluid exploded at her home several days ago, is in a critical condition at St. Francis Cabrini hospital in Alexandria.

Mrs. Shaw's daughter, two-year-old-Margaret, burned in same accident, was reported improved.

Rev. Johnny Zerangue, pastor of the Krotz Springs Methodist church, officiated at rituals at the Melville Methodist cemetery.

Mrs. Shaw is the former Hazel Perrault [sic Perroux], a native of Melville. She is the daughter of Mrs. Rena Perrault [sic Perroux] and the late N. “Mack” Perrault [sic Perroux], who was prominently known here.

Krotz Springs Housewife Dies Of Flame Injury

MELVILLE -- Burns suffered last Friday at her Krotz Springs home proved fatal at noon yesterday to Mrs. Irvin A. Shaw, about 33, while hospital officials reported that the second victim, her daughter, Margaret, 2, was “holding her own.”

The housewife and her daughter were burned when a pan of cleaning fluid, upset by the child according to reports, flamed over them in the kitchen of their home at Krotz Springs. Mrs. Shaw, an expectant mother, suffered burns over 90 per cent of her body. The daughter was less severely burned.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Shaw at 10 a.m. today at the Melville Methodist church with the pastor, the Rev. Johnnie Zerangue, officiating. Interment followed in the Methodist cemetery. Mrs. Shaw formerly lived in Melville.

The two were rushed to Bunkie and then transferred to St. Francis Cabrini hospital at Alexandria, where Mrs. Shaw died and where the child is still confined.

Shaw is an employe of the Gulf Refining company working in the Krotz Springs oil field.

Survivors include her husband and two other children besides Margaret, Charlotte, 7, and Billy, 5, who gave the alarm after the fire; by her mother, Mrs. Rene Perrioux [sic Rena Perroux] of Krotz Springs; two brothers, N. M. Perrioux [sic Perroux] of Baton Rouge, Claude, with the navy, stationed in Bermuda; and a sister, Mrs. John Paul, of Baton Rouge.
