Hazel Valentine McCarty
(September 14, 1937 - August 22, 2014)

Hazel Valentine McCarty, 76, passed away on August 22, 2014 at home in Soso, MS. She was retired from Sanderson Farms where she worked for seventeen years. Ms. McCarty was baptized in the Baptist Faith and a member of Open Door Baptist Church.

Ms. McCarty was born to Jack and Nonnie Valentine in 1937. She was the youngest of four girls that included Joycelyn Hawkins, Juanita Hamilton, and Delores Gambrell. In 1954, she married Ray McCarty, a barber and pastor, and together they had three children: Bobby (Debbie) McCarty of Ellisville, Cindy (Wayne) Waldrep, and Brenda (CJ) Jones, both of Soso.

In addition to her three children, she is also survived by eight grandchildren, Melissa (Jason) Ward of Soso, MS, Kimberly (Josh) Smith of Ft. Lewis, WA, Amy (Jenny) Hinton of Cincinnati, OH, Chad (Grace) Jones of Ellisville, MS, Justin (Leigh) McCarty of Laurel, MS, Evan (Amanda) McCarty of Quantico, VA, Scott (Kristin) Jones of Soso, MS and Jonathan (Ruth) McCarty of Camp Lejeune, NC; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Joycelyn Hawkins; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Nonnie Valentine; sisters, Juanita Hamilton and Delores Gambrell; niece, Cecilia Clay and nephew, Larry Hawkins.

Visitation for Ms. McCarty is scheduled for Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, MS. Graveside services will be Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 10:00am with burial to follow in Union Line Cemetery. Rev. James Walker will conduct the service.

Pallbearers will be Chad Jones, Scott Jones, Justin McCarty, Evan McCarty, Wayne Waldrep, and Jason Ward.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ms. McCarty's nine great-grandchildren: Hunter Armstrong, Preston Deese, Jack Reeves, Kayne McCarty, Samantha Jones, Leah Jones, Kylie Ward, Ryan Jones and Campbell McCarty.
