Helen Bednarek, 83, passed away May 8, 2019 at her residence in Washington, Texas.

The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill. Father Jozef Musiol, SDS, JCD, will serve as officiant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with a Rosary at 7 p.m.

Helen Bednarek was born January 24, 1936 in Chireno, Texas to Hazel (Mosley) and Eugene Fitzgerald. She was married to Julian John Bednarek on December 31, 1981. A lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill, Helen served on the altar society. Other memberships included KJT, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Navasota.

Helen and her husband Julian owned and operated a restaurant in the Washington Co. area. Other business ventures included operating a beauty salon in Lufkin, and employment at Gulf Publishing Co. in Houston.

Helen loved staying active, playing cards, dominoes, bingo and slots. She loved being around other people, talking, laughing and enjoying life. Shopping was a favorite pastime, and she loved a good bargain. A devout Christian, she loved the Lord, her church, and her family.

Survivors include sons Michael Lawrence Rushing of Washington; Steve Bednarek and wife Heidi of Arlington; daughter and son-in-law Rhonda and Gary Gregory of Lake Jackson; brother, Tommie Gene Fitzgerald; sisters and brothers-in-law Florence and Royce Heil, Betty and Kerry Pate, and Sandy and Wayne Cook, and sister, Ernestine Norton; grandchildren, Michael Aaron Hightower, and Caden Luke Bednarek.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Bednarek; parents, Eugene and Hazel Fitzgerald; sister, Joyce Fitzgerald; brother-in-law Keith Norton; nephew Kevin Hodges and niece, Karen Heil Oats.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Prihoda, Encompass Hospice, and caregivers Tanya, Danielle, and Hannah.

Memorials may be directed to the Building Fund of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Chappell Hill.
