Helen Yeager
July 12, 1924 - August 16, 2012

Yeager, Mrs. Helen Frances Ivie, age 88, passed on to her eternal home on Thursday afternoon, August 16, 2012. She was born July 13, 1924 in Belle Ellen, Alabama to Henry Franklin Ivie and Flora Mae Teague Ivie. On October 15, 1945 she married her “Bud”, Howard Ellis Yeager, just 3 days after he returned from World War II and they were married until his death on October 1, 2000.

Baptized in the creek at Schultz Creek Baptist Church in Bibb County, Alabama in 1938, she was an active member of Sixty Sixth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham for over 50 years until it's closing in 2003. She asked to be allowed to be the last member leaving the parking lot on the day of their final service. She then joined South Roebuck Baptist Church which had been started as a mission by Sixty Sixth Street many years before.

Mrs. Yeager graduated from Phillips High School and attended Wheeler Business College. She worked at Liberty National Life Insurance Company before becoming a full time wife and mother. For several years later in life she worked in the office of Jim Deerman's Bar-B-Que.

She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Franklin Ivie, her mother Flora Mae Teague Nelson and her husband, Howard Ellis Yeager. Her father passed away when she was only 16. She cared for both her mother and her husband in her home until both their deaths there. She will be remembered as a very kind and loving person.

Surviving Mrs. Yeager are her daughter Jane Ellis Yeager Beasley and her husband Don Howard Beasley of Trussville. She is also survived by her grandson, Mark Howard Beasley and his wife Mary Elizabeth McNeely Beasley of Saint Johns, Florida. She leaves a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane Beasley and great-grandson, Grayson Howard Beasley also of Saint Johns.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 18, 2012 from 12 PM until service time at 2 PM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel. Following this she will be laid to rest in the family plot at Forest Hill Cemetery in Woodlawn. At her request in lieu of sending flowers, if you would like to remember her with a memorial gift please make that gift to South Roebuck Baptist Church, 501 Mountain Drive, Birmingham, Alabama 35206.

Her pastor Rev. Chris Crain will officiate at her services.
