RALEIGH -- Helen Smith Arender, 90, a homemaker, died of heart failure Thursday at Magee General Hospital.

Services are 2 p.m. today at Sharon Baptist Church with burial in North Raleigh Cemetery. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Arender was a Smith County native. She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school for 50 years.

She was the widow of Amos Arender Sr.

Survivors include: sons, A.W. Arender Jr., Otho Arender and Marthell Arender, all of Raleigh; daughters, Gay Bolton and Sue Smith, both of Pope, Jeanette Arnold of Raleigh and Angie Nell Arender of Jackson; brother, Jasper Smith of Raleigh; sister, Adell Black of Pulaski; and 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
