Helen Virginia Wheelus Wells
Funeral services for Helen Virginia (Wheelus) Wells, 74, of Baton Rouge were
held Saturday at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Solomon
officiating.
Interment followed in Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.
Mrs. Wells was born October 30, 1928 at Winnsboro and passed away after a
lengthy illness on September 3, 2003 in Baton Rouge.
Mrs. Wells was a graduate of Winnsboro High School and attended Northeast
Louisiana University. She resided in Monroe from 1950-1988. She retired from
E.A. Conway Memorial Hospital after 33+ years of service. She was a charter
member of Southside United Methodist Church in Monroe and a member of
Riverdale Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. Mrs. Wells was a volunteer at E.A.
Conway Memorial Auxiliary. She was a Cathaven foster mother and a volunteer
at Our Lady of Mercy School Cafeteria. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Henry E. Wells; parents, W.H. (Henry) and Mayola Cupples Wheelus;
four brothers, W.H., Gene, Rogers and James Doyle Whelus.
Helen Wheelus was the kindest person to everyone she met. she was a mother
to all.
Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Wells Hanlin and husband, David of Baton
Rouge; granddaughter, Catherine (Cathy) Gits of Baton Rouge; a brother,
Ralph Wheelus of Lawrenceville, Georgia; foster brother,Shelby Wheelus of
San Antonio, Texas; Foster daughters, Debbie Pylant and husband, Tommy of
Ruston; Agnes Cruz Hillman and husband, Ronnie of Monroe; sisters-in-law,
Mary Reeder of Jacksonville, Florida and Ruth Traphagen of Plaquemine, La.;
six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
