Heneri Ann Short
August 11, 1935 - October 26, 2011

One of the most avid Texas Rangers' fans in Ellis County , Heneri Ann Short of Red Oak, passed away on October 26 after game six of the World Series was postponed. Fighting valiantly against cancer to see the pennant brought home to Dallas , Heneri Ann weakened and God had to take her out of the game early.

Born on August 11, 1935, Heneri Ann Short was a 1953 graduate of Red Oak High School and a lifetime member of the Red Oak United Methodist Church. After a career in business, she retired to travel and work in her garden, affectionately nicknamed, “the Aboretum.” Even in retirement, Heneri Ann gave back to her community by volunteering with Helping Hands and serving on the Ellis County District Appraisal Board. With an extensive fan base of her own, Heneri's compassion and kindness will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Burl and son, Dub, her parents, Hazel and Wallace Cockerham, brother Gordon Cockerham and sister Billie Louise Trees. She is survived by her sister, Dr. Joy Shaw of Red Oak and bleachers full of nieces and nephews.

Family and fans will celebrate the life of Heneri Ann Short on Saturday morning at 10:00 in her backyard garden at 100 Dub Lane , Red Oak. A visitation will be held at Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie on Friday, October 28, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment will be at Red Oak Cemetery following the morning service.
