Funeral services for Mr. Henry Delos Briggs, age 87, of Oak Grove, Louisiana will be held at 2PM on Friday, May 11, 2012 at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Grove.
Reverend Doctor Curtis Carroll will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove.
Mr. Briggs passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove.
Mr. Briggs was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oak Grove. A combat veteran of World War II, he served as a Sergeant with the 86th Chemical Mortor Battaalion in the European Theatre. He saw combat in Central Europe; Normandy; Northern France; Rhineland; Ardennes and was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. He retired as an Insurance Executive from Star Technical Risk Agency in Dallas, Texas. After retirement, he returned to Oak Grove. Henry is the last Briggs of one of the first pioneer families of West Carroll Parish.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ollie Briggs and Edna S. Harper Briggs; brother, John C. Briggs; sister, Elaine Fleming; sister, Frances E. Kuykendall; and sister, Edna Carolyn Brashier.
He is survived by his sister, Martha Baxter of St. Louis, Missouri; sister, Charlotte Scott of Lake Providence, Louisiana; brother-in-law, L. B. Brashier of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; 6 nephews, Henry Fleming, David Brashier, Robert Baxter, Mark Baxter, John Baxter and Bill Scott, and a niece, Cathy Torielli.
Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Catron-Kelly Post #53 of Oak Grove, Louisiana.
Family will receive friends from noon until time of service, Friday, May 11, 2012 at Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove.
