REV. HENRY O. McCARTY
The Rev. Henry O. McCarty, of 1427 Congress St., died Friday at Jones County Community Hospital after an extended illness. He was 93 and was retired, but was known for his Salvation Army ministry. He was a member of Plainway Baptist Church and was a 33rd-degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Order with a lifetime membership in the Gulfport Lodge.
The funeral service will be held at 3:30 Sunday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. The Rev. Harold Ishee and Salvation Army Lt. Ernest Steadham will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Joe McCarty, Vertis McCarty, Bill Poore, Clinton Quarles, Louie Pitts and Joe Herrington.
Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery with a Masonic graveside service.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Idell Cooper McCarty, Laurel; one daughter, Mrs. Herschel (Betty) Welborn, Laurel; one brother, Dewey McCarty, Laurel; one sister, Mrs. Irene Rogers, Stringer; one grandson, and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memory Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
