Herbert D. Thigpen

GRAND PRAIRIE - Herbert Dennis Thigpen, a retired industrial steel fabricator for Wyatt's Industries in Dallas, died Thursday at a Dallas hospital. He was 80.

Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bowles Memorial Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, where he was a member. Burial will be in Southland Cemetery.

Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home in Grand Prairie is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thigpen was born in Sikes, La., and had lived in Grand Prairie for 40 years.

He worked for Wyatt's Industries for 25 years before his retirement in 1976.

Survivors: Wife of 53 years, Lucy Thigpen of Grand Prairie; son, Col. Jerry Thigpen of Shalimar, Fla.; four daughters, Alice Gibson of Rayville, La., Julia Pearson of Grand Prairie, Denise Keating of Houston and Diane Slater of Hallsville; four sisters, Alma Rhinehart of Mangham, La., Sarah Smith of Salinas, Calif., Maybelle Cadenhead of Hutchens and Sopha Springfield of Athens, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
