SHREVEPORT, LA - Herbert Simon Hawthorne was born September 3, 1919, in Clarks, Louisiana, and departed this life on March 1, 2002 after a long illness.
Rev. Crawford Williams, former pastor of Ingleside Baptist Church and Chaplain Frank Eppinette will conduct funeral services to be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 5, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Centuries Memorial Park.
Mr. Hawthorne was a gentle man with a strong Christian faith. He was a founding member of Parkhurst Baptist Church and at the time of his death, he was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School and Training Union and was active in many church ministries prior to his illness.
In 1984, after 42 years of service, Mr. Hawthorne retired from SWEPCO, where he worked as a Watch Engineer at Arsenal Hill Power Plant. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local Union #329.
He was married to Mary Elizabeth Niager who preceded him in death. He is also predeceased by his brother Albert Felton Hawthorne and his sisters, Ruth Hawthorne Chandler and Dorothy Hawthorne Wright.
He is survived by his sister Mae Belle Hawthorne Wakeman and his brother Everett Clayton Hawthorne and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be members of the men's Sunday School class at Ingleside Baptist Church.
The family is grateful for the care and services of Dr. Clarence Teagle, HMC Hospice Care and the nurses, aides and staff at IHS Pierremont.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ingleside Baptist Church or the charity of the donors choice.
