Doug Baker, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church. Military rites will be conducted by the 12th District, Department of Louisiana, Veterans of Foreign Wars - Honor Guard.
Mr. Lunebring died Saturday, July 29, 2000 after a long illness. Herman "Luny" as his family and friends called him was born in Lom-Poc, California on November 30, 1911 the son of Henry and Matilda Lunebring. The Lunebring family moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico when he was 12. Herman “Lung” [sic “Luny”] attended grade school in Las Cruces. He attended New Mexico Military Institute, New Mexico Highland College, and Arizona State University for three years on a football scholarship. Luny was an avid football and basketball fan. He kept up with the Lady Techsters and Centenary. Herman “Luny” worked for Otis Pressure Control in Hobbs, NM, Oil City, LA and Vivian, LA. Luny, Cid White and Frank Boone formed Boone Company. Luny joined the Coast Guard during World War II and remained until after the War. He, Joe Ince and Jimmy Derrick went into business and formed Wire Line Service Company. When their business burned they decided to play poker to see who was to keep the name Wire Line Service. Luny won with a pair of jacks which became his trademark. The pair of jacks appeared on his business cards. Luny was liked and made a lot of friends in the oil field. He invented and patented a tool called a rabbit that would automatically clean paraffin in wells. He is listed in the Who's Who of Business Men in Louisiana. He belonged to the Fair Park Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, and to the Lutheran Church.
Luny was very kind and generous in helping family and friends. He was a great fisherman who was always teaching his family how to fish and drive. Luny was loved very much by his family and we are going to miss him so much.
Herman “Luny” is survived by his wife, Polly Dunahoe Lunebring; daughter, Paula; son, Bob and wife, Carolyn; five granddaughters, Debbie and her friend, David, Pam, Angela, Jennifer, and Caroline; brother, Bill Lunebring; sister-in-law, Mary Young and family; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved Uncle Luny.
Memorials may be made to the National Federation of the Blind of Louisiana, 101 South Trenton St., Ruston, LA 71270. (Angela Sasser, one of the granddaughters, is blind.)
