Funeral services for Mr. Herman Victor McDaniel, of Carthage, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, May 16, at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mack Brister and the Rev. Johnny Mills officiating.
Burial was in Antioch Cemetery.
Mr. McDaniel, 86, died Saturday, May 14 in a Carthage residence.
Born Oct. 25, 1901 in Panola County, he was the son of John Andrew and Mattie Lilly Twomey McDaniel. Mr. McDaniel was a resident of Panola County most of his life. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church. Mr. McDaniel married Ethel Gertrude Hightower on Dec. 23, 1926 in Carthage. During his lifetime, he was a farmer and rancher and he worked in the shipyard in Beaumont. He also was the owner-operator of a country store in the Grand Bluff Community for 27 years.
Mr. McDaniel was preceded in death by a son, Billy Eugene McDaniel in 1977; four brothers, Lester McDaniel, Theodore McDaniel, Clarence McDaniel, and Andrew McDaniel; one sister, Ethel Garland; and one grandchild, Lionel Mark McDaniel.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Gertrude McDaniel of Carthage; one son, Darrell McDaniel of Winslow, Ariz.; two daughters, Peggy LaGrone of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Patsy Mills of Carthage; two brothers: Robert H. McDaniel of Carthage, J.W. McDaniel of Boling Green, Ky.; three sisters: Katie Garland of DeBerry, Amy Anderson of Tenaha, and Annie Faye Jones of Carthage; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
