Young Winnsboro Man Fatally Injured In Sunday Shreveport Car Accident

A young Winnsborian was fatally injured and his brother seriously hurt in an automobile collision in downtown Shreveport about 4 a.m. Sunday. The two were headed for an early-morning squirrel hunt when the accident occurred.

Dead is H. M. Antley, 26, who died in a Shreveport hospital about 10:30 p.m. Sunday. His brother, Charles, 20, of Bossier City was reported Tuesday to be in a coma from serious internal injuries. He is hospitalized at the Highland sanitarium in Shreveport.

Police officers said the Antley automobile ws traveling east on Gladstone street when it was hit broadside by a car driven by Roger Lee Christian, 19, of Shreveport.

Christian was allegedly traveling north on Line avenue and a traffic light at the intersection of the two streets was not working at the time, officers said.

Investigation revealed that Christian's car skidded about 70 feet before colliding with the Antley car. After the impact the Antley car careened 58 feet into a utility pole.

Witnesses said the Christian car was traveling at an extremely high speed prior to the accident.

Christian and his two passengers, all Northwestern State college students, were treated for minor cuts and bruises. No charges have been filed, pending further investigation, police officers said.

Funeral services for Mr. Antley were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Crockett Point Baptist church near Crowville.

He is survived by his wife, Lindya of Winnsboro; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Antley of Bossier city; his brother, Charles; three sisters, Katherine and Marjorie Antley of Bossier City and Mrs. Odell Simpson of Grayson.
