Hettie Gilliam Hardison, 98, former longtime resident of Mapleash Avenue, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in Chattanooga where she had made her home for the past few months.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Ricky Clay officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Saturday after 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born August 16, 1915 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late George Washington Gilliam and America Elizabeth Davidson Gilliam. On August 4, 1934, she married Eslie Harrison Hardison who preceded her in death September 25, 1995. For many years, Mrs. Hardison had a home daycare center and she continued to have a great love for children. She was a member of South Gate Church of Christ.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley (Isaac) Corder of Gallatin; son, Joel (Linda) Hardison of Chattanooga; brother, Boyd (Lois) Gilliam of Columbia; grandchildren, Carla Sims of Greenville; Rafe Corder and Beau Corder, both of Gallatin; Melissa Pettway and Emily Bagley, both of Chattanooga; eleven great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Gilliam, Ela Gilliam, and Geraldine Clay, all of Columbia; and many dear nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sister, Edna Lee; and brothers, Carl Gilliam, Floyd Gilliam, Howard Gilliam, Jesse Gilliam, Arvis Gilliam, Herbert Gilliam, and Hollis Gilliam.

Active pallbearers will be Rafe Corder, Beau Corder, Jason Gilliam, Robert Pettway, Clint Bagley, Luke Corder, and Drew Corder.
