Mr. Homer Yates Corn Sr.
BURLINGTON -- Mr. Homer Yates Corn Sr., 83, of 525 S. Williamson Avenue, Elon, died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2001, at Hospice Home after a lengthy illness.
A native of Cairo, Ill., he was the husband of Mrs. Minnie Lee Mims Corn, who survives, and the son of Homer Leslie Corn and Maude Estelle Yates Corn, both deceased. He was a member of St. Paul' s United Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army Corp. He was a retired schoolteacher after teaching for over 50 years. He taught school in Mississippi, Nevada, and Dade County, Fla., before coming to Alamance County to teach at Alamance Community College.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include two daughters, Mrs. Laura Pennington of Graham and Mrs. Mary Ann Swanner of Falls Church, Va.; a son, Mr. Homer Y. Corn Jr. of Dallas, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. Roxanne Stevens of Lanham, Md. and Ms. Nancy Corn of Charlestown, W. Va.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Burritt.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Richard Stanley, pastor. Burial will be in Magnolia cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home of Graham from 7 until 9 Tuesday evening. Other times they will be at the home of Laura and Wade Pennington, 423 Wildwood Lane in Graham.
