Houma man with Jennings survivors killed in crash

HOUMA, La. -- Funeral services were held last week for a Houma man whose mother and brother live in Jennings and who died of injuries received in the crash of a light plane near Morgan City.

Services for Hosea B. Meredith, 48, of Houma, were held last Monday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church followed by burial in Hanks Cemetery at Morse.

Meredith was killed and Rodney Plattsmier, 46, of Boutte, injured when the plane Meredith was piloting crashed near the Amelia Airport near Morgan City Friday, Sept. 19.

The single-engine Cessna apparently was on a final approach for a landing at the air strip when it struck the tops of several trees and crashed to the ground, according to witnesses.

Airport Manager Willie Melancon said a light fog was beginning to rise when the wreck occurred.

Meredith's survivors include his mother, Mrs. T.I. Meredith of Jennings and one brother, C.O. Meredith, also of Jennings.

His widow, the former Calpurnia Hargrave, also survives him.
