Howard Ellis ``Knobby'' McCarty died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, in New Orleans. He was 71, a native of Roanoke and longtime resident of New Orleans. Visitation at Aurora United Methodist Church, 3300 Eton St., New Orleans, on Wednesday, Feb. 7, from 11 a.m. until memorial service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Hulen Warren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Dorothy DeVilbiss McCarty; daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Whitney Alexander; two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard ``Rick'' and Patricia McCarty, New Orleans, and Kenny and Michelle McCarty, Mandeville; daughter, Susan Cannoy, Belle Chasse; eight grandchildren, Andrew and Patrick Alexander, Paige, Kylie and Scott McCarty, Megan and Michael McCarty, and Jack Cannoy; and brothers, Edward McCarty, Houma, and Phillip McCarty, Roanoke.
Preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Frances McCarty; and grandson, Jonathan Alexander. He was a self-employed construction consultant, primarily with PAI and Shell Oil Co., and was a longtime member and Sunday school teacher at Aurora United Methodist Church. He was an alumnus of McNeese State University, veteran of the National Guard, served as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 60, former president of Algiers Kiwanis Club and charter member of OFC. He enjoyed camping and fishing, but was happiest when surrounded by his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Aurora United Methodist Church or The Dunham School.
