Coach Howard McCarty
(December 31, 1940 - October 9, 2014)

Funeral services for Coach Howard McCarty, age 73 of Olla, will be held at 2 PM Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the gymnasium of LaSalle High School with Rev. Johnnie Phillips and Dustin Robertson officiating. Interment will follow at Beech Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 11, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Olla from 4 PM to 8 PM then again Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the gymnasium of LaSalle High School from 12 PM to service time of 2 PM.

Coach McCarty was born on December 31, 1940 in Urania, LA to the union of Wiston Aubrey McCarty and Minnie Hale McCarty and passed from this life on Thursday, October 9, 2014. He served in the US Army and was a member of First Baptist Church of Olla. Coach retired after 40 years of service in education as a teacher, coach, and principal with LaSalle High School, Jena High School and Winnfield Sr. High School. He served his community as a former school board member.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Polly Walsh McCarty; brother, Arlos McCarty and sister, Beryl Dean Taylor.

Those left to cherish his memory are his three daughters: Gayla Leath of Spring Hill, FL, Mary Margaret McCarty of Olla and Katie Helton and husband, Jimmy of Tullos; four grandchildren: Lauren Riggs and husband, Paul, Allison Boyette, Aaron Boyette and Aubrey Helton; two great-grandchildren: Case Riggs and Halle Riggs.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Griffin, Adam Griffin, Goose Tatum, Don Carter, Randy McCarty, Joel Sims, Bull Barnhill and Sherman McCarty. Honorary pallbearers will be his former football players.

In lieu of flowers donations in honor of Coach McCarty may be made to LaSalle High School Athletics, Jena High School Athletics or Winnfield Sr. High School Athletics.
