Howard Madison Stringfellow
Howard Madison Stringfellow, 94, of El Dorado passed away peacefully surrounded by family in his room at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home on Sunday morning, Sept. 24, 2006. He loved Hudson and called it home. He was dearly loved and attended to by those who worked there. Mr. Stringfellow was born in Wesson, on March 31, 1912, to the late Mittie Byrd Stringfellow and Benjamin F. Stringfellow.
He was preceded in death by his life mate of 60 plus years, Daisy Nielson Stringfellow; a son, Dr. L.B. Stringfellow Sr.; four siblings, Ruth Dobson, Versa Atwood, Marcus Stringfellow, Eva Hansard; a grandson, David Varnell.
He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Varnell and her husband, William of El Dorado; a daughter-in-law, Marcia Stringfellow of Memphis; a granddaughter, Marcy McCoy of El Dorado; two grandsons, Dr. L.B. Stringfellow and wife Jeanne of Fort Smith, Dr. Steven Neil Stringfellow and wife Kim of Shreveport, La. He had eight great-grandchildren who were the light of his life, Skyler McCoy of El Dorado, Jordan, Jane, Marie, Natalie, Evan Stringfellow of Fort Smith, Victoria, Steven, Sarah Stringfellow of Shreveport, La.
Mr. Stringfellow retired from Monsanto Chemical and helped his wife at the Spudnut Shop until they sold it to their son-in-law. In retirement, he and his wife traveled to many places including Europe and the Holy Land on several occasions. He was an avid sportsman and loved the outdoors. He instilled a love of the outdoors in his children and grandchildren. He loved interacting with people and never met a stranger.
Mr. Stringfellow was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served on the board, was a Sunday school teacher, president of the Frances Asbury class, and active in the Fellowship of the Sent. He served as chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory board, president of the Boys Club Board under Alva Waddel, and coached baseball for many years. He was also a 32nd degree Mason.
Services will be held at Young's Funeral Directors Chapel, El Dorado, today at 3 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army or Community Hospice.
