Hugh Stanly Dies; Was Civic Leader

Hugh W. Stanly, 63, a soft drink wholesaler who was active in civic affairs, died in a local hospital at 4:20 p.m. yesterday.

Services are being held this afternoon at McCabe-Carruth Funeral Home.

Ministers are the Rev. Avery Rogers, pastor of Baptist Temple, and the Rev. W. E. Howard, pastor of First Baptist Church.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Leesville, La.

Mr. Stanly was born in Leesville March 10, 1891, and came to Victoria in 1934.

He lived at 511 Meyer St. and operated his soft drink business at 1218 East Rio Grande Blvd.

He was a former member of the board of trustees of Victoria Independent School District as well as a member of Knights Templar, First Baptist Church, Victoria Lions Club, Victoria Masonic Lodge, Victoria Shrine Club and Arabia Temple of Houston.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Nettie Phillips Stanly; two brothers, Finly Stanly of Leesville and Philip Stanly of Bunkie, La., and four sisters, Mrs. Green Coleman of Jena, La., and Mrs. Neal Turner, Mrs. Elmo Tipton and Mrs. Ruth Winters, all of Leesville.
