IDA F. SMITH, Ida Floyd Finney was born Aug. 8, 1913, in Denton Co., TX, near the little community of Krum. She was the daughter of Volentine Crawford Finney (b. Nov. 15, 1876/d. Feb. 7, 1943) (son of William R. Finney and Annie Rucker) and Minnie Clementine McCarty (b. Dec. 24, 1874/d. Jan. 18, 1953, daughter of O.P. McCarty and Francenia Floyd). V.C. and Minnie were married July 17, 1896, in Fort Worth, TX, lived in Texas and are both buried in the McAdoo Cemetery. Ida had one brother, Benjamin Morris Finley, b. Feb. 18, 1900. Now deceased Ben is buried in T or C New Mexico; a sister, Beatrice Finney, b. Sept. 18, 1904, deceased, buried in Denver, CO; a sister, Willie Clara Finney, b. Apr. 27, 1910 now living in Texas; and a sister Annie Rucker Finney, b. Nov. 17, 1915, now living in Denver, CO.

When Ida was five years old, the Finneys family moved to Wise Co., TX. Ida started school at the New South school and continued her education there until the winter of 1926-27. The family moved, at that time, to Dickens County and Ida finished out her sixth grade year at McAdoo School. She finished her schooling at McAdoo High School, graduating in 1932 as the salutatorian of her class.

On Sept. 12, 1939, Ida married Ernest Smith in Crosbyton, TX. Ida and Ernest (b. Apr. 5, 1901/d. Nov. 30, 1987/bur. Wallace Cemetery, Marshall Co., KY) made their home in Marshall Co., KY, living in the Elva community.

Their children: (1) Ernest Earl; md Janet Emily Small, and they have four children - Michael Earl, Stephen Floyd, James Charles, and Kathleen Annette, and one grandson. Ernest and Janet live in Taunton, MA. (2) Clara Anne; md Harold Wayne Creason Dec. 17, 1963 in McCracken Co., KY and they have three children - a son, Kerry Wayne, a graduate of Marshall County High School, now living in San Diego, CA, and daughters Mahotah Lee and Harla Anne, also graduated of Marshall County High School, and living at home. Clara and Harold live in Benton, KY. (3) Minnie Belle; md Glenn Hardy (1940-1987) and had four children - Raymond Floyd, Minnie Katherine, Jessie Wayne, and James Edward. Minnie and her children live in Louisville, KY. Ida moved to Paducah in the summer of 1961 and started working at the Allie Burnley Rest Home. She later worked at the Piper's Rest Home and the Jim Burnley Nursing Home; then she started working at NHE, and worked there for several years before retiring in 1978, at the age of 65.

Ida continued to live in Paducah after her retirement, until 1983 when health problems forced her to give up housekeeping. She now resides in the Calvert City Convalescent Center in Marshall County.
