MRS. IDA W. SAUNDERS AGED REYNOLDS WOMAN, DIES THURSDAY, MAY 27
Funeral Services Held at Reynolds Methodist Church Last Friday Afternoon.
Mrs. Ida Whatley Saunders, one of Taylor County's oldest citizens, died at her home in Reynolds Thursday, May 27. She had been in declining health for some time.
Mrs. Saunders was born in Tayuor [sic Taylor] county October 3, 1863, daughter of the late Mr. William and Mrs. Susan Whatley. She was married to Mr. John R. Saunders who preceded her in death several years ago.
Mrs. Saunders was a member of the Reynolds Methodist church and took an active part in all church activities as long as her health permitted her [t]o do son [sic so].
Funeral services were held at the Reynolds Methodist church Rev. Park Smith, pastor of the church officiated. He was assisted by Rev. W. B. Hoats of Reynolds and Rev. E. H. Dunn of Butler. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery.
Honorary pall bearers included: E. T. Shealy, Tom Fountain, C. B. Hicks, Hugh Windham, Jack Payne, David Whatley and W. M. Hollis. Active pall bearers were: Thurman, Edgar, C. E. and H. C. Whatley, Eric and Walker Newsom.
Survivors include three sons, W. T. and W. F. Saunders of Reynolds and E. L. Saunders of Atlanta; and two daughters, Mrs. Royeton of Reynolds; and Mrs. Merrill of Hazard Ky.
Goddard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
