Idell Mayfield
Idell “MawMaw” Mayfield, age 94, of Austin, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013. She was born on July 23, 1918 in Mount Olive, Mississippi.
After raising five children, she attended nursing school at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas. Idell worked as an LVN at several nursing homes, including Monte Siesta and Rebekah Baines Johnson. Idell was well known for her southern cooking and her grandchildren loved her chicken and dumplings.
Idell was greeted at the gates of Heaven by her son, James Mayfield; grandson, J.R. Mayfield; sisters, Dolly Carr and Georgia Duffek; and brothers, Delmer and Denton McDaniel.
She is survived by her children, Eddie Mayfield and Philis, Carolyn Turner and her husband, Curtis, Johnny Mayfield and his wife, Denise, and Joe Mayfield. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Misty Goodson, Carri Turner, Amber Williford, Nichole Braddock, Lori Mayfield and Bailey Rhoads-Mayfield. Idell also had several great and great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind a brother, Joe McDaniel and three sisters, LaVenia Scherer, Joan Peters, Sylvia Rogers and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 6, 2013 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
