Irene Clifton

Mrs. Irene Thacker Clifton, age 80, of 226 Mountain Avenue, Hot Springs, died Saturday, September 18, 2010, at Bath Community Hospital, Hot Springs. She was the wife of Hyman Dewitt Clifton who preceded her in death in 1999.

Mrs. Clifton was born June 24, 1930 in Hot Springs, the daughter of the late Henry Thomas Thacker and Gladys Andrews Thacker. A former employee of the Silk Mill and the Cascades Inn, she was an employee in the Medical Records Department of Bath County Hospital at her retirement. Mrs. Clifton was a member of the Emory United Methodist Church and the Women of the Church.

Mrs. Clifton is survived by two sons, Timothy D. Clifton and friend, Carol Dunaway of Covington; J. Dean Clifton and wife, Merry Ann of Mechanicsville; a daughter, Tina Susan Waybright and husband, Richard of Monterey; nine grandchildren, Shane Clifton and friend, Keri Johnston, Joelle D. Clifton, Josiah D. Clifton, Duane Scott Clifton, Eric Wade Buzzard, Rocky Waybright, Mike Isles and wife, Becky, Owen J. Kiser and wife, Jennifer, Lorri Ann Booze; six great grandchildren, Maddie Clifton, Chelsey Isles, Rebecca Kiser, A.J. Kiser, Emillee Booze, Jacob Booze; and a special companion and brother-in-law, Carl Frye of Falling Springs.

In addition to her parents, Henry Thomas Thacker and Gladys Andrews Thacker and her husband, Hyman Dewitt Clifton, Mrs. Clifton was preceded in death by one brother, Warren Thacker and two sisters, Helen Jones and Shirley Frye.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Emory United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynn Wright officiating, assisted by the Rev. J. Dean Clifton and Pastor Kenny Carroll. Interment will follow in Emory United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Shane Clifton, Duane Clifton, Eric Buzzard, Rocky Waybright, Mike Isles, Jay Kiser, Bobby Jones and Paul Marian.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at and at other times at the residence, 226 Mountain Avenue, Hot Springs.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Emory Memorial United Methodist Church, 7119 Jackson River Road, Hot Springs, VA 24445.
