Iva Brown Gray
Iva Brown Gray, 95, of Colmesneil, Texas, died
Friday, January 19, 2001, at Tyler County Hospital
in Woodville after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January
21, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Colmesneil.
Officiating at the services was Brother David Miller,
pastor of First Baptist Church of Colmesneil.
Serving as pallbearers were J.T. Brown,
Charlie Branch, Steve Brown, Jeremy Brown, and
Glen Brown.
Visitation was held on Saturday, January 20,
from 5 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gray was the oldest of four children and
was born to Eula Allen and Elishia Butler on
October 13, 1905 in Colmesneil, Texas. For many
years she was a actively involved in First Baptist
Church of Colmesneil, where she was a member of
the Dorcas Sunday School Class and the choir.
She will be remembered for her faithful work as
Benevolent Chairman. As a member of the
Colmesneil Order of the Eastern Star, she enjoyed
the fellowship where she served as treasurer for
several years. She enjoyed sharing her love of
cooking and preserving foods, her gardening skills,
her knowledge of her family history, and the history
of the Colmesneil area. Her family and friends will
treasure these special memories of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents,
Elishia and Eula Butler, husband, Jeff Gray, sister,
Odna Ogden, and her brother, Cecil Butler. She is
survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, James
Harold and Jackie Brown, Kenneth and Joyce
Brown, and Travis and Evone Brown all of
Colmesneil; sister, Hallie Mae Jones of Austin; nine
grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Services were under the direction of Stringer
and Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
