VIVIAN, LA - Services for J. B. Markham, 78, will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2001 at United Pentecostal Church in Oil City, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Ron Finical, pastor of United Pentecostal Church in Oil City, LA. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Oil City, LA.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home.
Mr. Markham died Monday, November 26, 2001 in Shreveport, LA. He was born November 13, 1923 in Marthaville, LA to Ed and Lilly King Markham. He attended Sabine Elementary School and graduated from Union Grove High School. Mr. Markham attended college, but made a decision to enlist in the U.S. Army October 14, 1942. A WWII veteran, he served in the South Pacific. After his discharge from the military in 1946, he went into the oil business and was later owner and CEO of Markham Equipment and Production Company. He retired after having a stroke and other health problems.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lilly King Markham and Ed and Ruth Craig Markham and brothers, Earl Markham, L. D. Markham and R.E. (Bud) Markham.
Survivors are his wife, Rose Savell Markham of Vivian, LA; his children's mother, Betty Roberts Markham of Shreveport, LA; two sons, Ed Markham and wife, Mary of Slidell, LA and Jack Markham and wife, Debbie of Bossier City, LA; two daughters, Peggy Fenner of Shreveport, LA and Jan Lang of Denver, CO; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two step-sons, Michael Herring and wife, Christy and Phillip Herring and wife, Kim and one step-daughter, Melanie Hawkins and husband, Billy all of McLeod, TX; eleven step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren and three sisters, Nadine Markham Russ, Bettye Jo Markham Taylor and David Ruth Ellerd, all of Kilgore, TX.
Pallbearers will be Michael Herring, Lloyd Markham, Dickie Martin, Charles Rathbun, Jerry King and Sonny Ferguson.
John Hawkins and Jason Herring will serve as honorary pallbearers.
