J. D. (Claude) Jenkins

Funeral services for Mr. J.D. (Claude) Jenkins, of Carthage, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eugene Cox and the Rev. A.P. Bazer officiating.

Burial will be held at Youngblood Cemetery near Beckville.

Mr. Jenkins, 89, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Panola General Hospital.

Born Jan. 16, 1895 [sic 1898] in Shelby County, he was the son of David A. and Mattie Duran Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins had lived in Panola County for 80 years, coming here from Shelby County. He was a retired, self-employed farmer and grocery store owner. Mr. Jenkins was also a member of the Friendship Baptist Church near Riderville.

Survivors include his wife: Mrs. Vivian Jenkins of Carthage; one son: C.L. Jenkins of Shreveport; three daughters: Delta Lee (Tot) Harris of Fair Play Community; Ouida Pope of Longview; Hulene Cohen of Shreveport; four sisters: Flossie Helm of Marshall; Emma Richards of Harvey, La.; Odell Barbee of Longview; Naomi Allen of Wichita Falls; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
