J.L. Bell
(December 20, 1925 - March 31, 2014)

Funeral services for J.L. Bell, 88, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Denman Avenue Baptist Church with Brother Kevin Roy and Brother Blackie Cranford officiating. Entombment will follow at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park Sunset Mausoleum.

Mr. Bell was born December 20, 1925 in Angelina County, Texas to Conner and Elizabeth (Grimes) Bell, and died Monday, March 31, 2014 in a local hospital.

Mr. Bell was a lifetime resident of Lufkin. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from Southwest Color Graphics following more than 30 years of service. He served as Mayor of Burke for over 15 years. Mr. Bell had served as Minister of Music at Burke, Corrigan, Bald Hill and Midway Baptist Church. He was a longtime member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher at Denman Avenue Baptist Church and had been in the church choir for many years. Mr. Bell loved fishing and was a member of the Saturday Bass Club.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Nick Trout of Lufkin and Wanda and Charles McCall of New Mexico; grandsons, Travis, Jones, Jr. and wife Donica of Oklahoma, Christopher Jones and wife Lindy of Dallas, and George Trout and wife Robin of Houston; granddaughter, Nicole Miller and husband Craig of Port Neches; and great-grandchildren, Jaycie Vincent, Chloe Jones, Jackson Jones, Ethan Conner, Caden Miller, Nicholas Miller and Cole Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verna Mae Bell; and brother-in-law, Robert Hutson.

Pallbearers will be Travis Jones, Roston McDuffie, Jerry Blackman, Craig Miller, Ronnie Lusk and George Trout.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
