J.L. Coody

Former Keyport resident J.L. Coody, 75, of Hemet, Calif., died April 23, 2001, after a lengthy illness at the Hemet Valley Hospital.

He was born July 3, 1925, in Clarks, La., to Thomas and Ebrige (Emmons) Coody. He graduated from Kelly High School in Grayson, La., in 1943.

He married Gwen Gould on Sept. 22, 1945, in Monroe, La.

Mr. Coody worked as an electrician in Shop 6 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 28 years, retiring in 1973.

He enjoyed gardening and traveling.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Don of Richland and Dusty of Port Orchard; four brothers, Benny of Fort Smith, Ark., Charles of Columbia, La., and Thomas ``Junior'' and Fred, both of Monroe; a sister, Cleatus Rogers of Columbia; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held April 29 at Hemet Valley Mortuary, with interment at Hemet Valley Cemetery.
