J.R. Etheridge
J.R. Etheridge, 81, of Brookhaven, died Jan. 16, 2002, at King's Daughters Medical Center.
Visitation is 5-9 tonight at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb, and 9 a.m. Friday until services there at 11 a.m. Dr. Ken Kirkand Dr. Johnny Bley will officiate. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.
Mr. Etheridge was born Sept. 27, 1920, in Smithdale. He was the son of Phineo Carter and Zella Jane Elizabeth Bates Etheridge.
He was a retired building contractor, and founded J.R. Etheridge Construction in 1956. He was a member of Brookhaven Church of God, and a former member of First Assembly of God in McComb. He used to restore old automobiles, especially Model A's, and he enjoyed gardening.
Mr. Etheridge was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Vernon, Ernest and Robert Lee Etheridge; one sister, Ruby Morgan; and a great-grandson, Zachary Wayne Bryan.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Margarette McCall Etheridge of Brookhaven; who he married Sept. 3, 1938; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bobby Etheridge of McComb, Roger and Margie Etheridge of Summit, and Jerry and Carolyn Etheridge of Brookhaven; two brothers, Hilton Etheridge of Natchez and Julius Etheridge of Columbia, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Etheridge, J. Etheridge, Glen Etheridge, Louis Etheridge, Dan Etheridge and William Etheridge. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Earl Etheridge, Paul Etheridge, Noel Nolasco, Kelly Honea, James Lee Etheridge and Scott Etheridge.
