Jack Allen
August 19, 1923 - September 11, 2014

Jack was born on August 19, 1923 to Bessie Ann Lambert Allen and Richard Ralph Allen in Paris, Texas.

He served in the Navy Seabees during World War II and graduated from Paris, TX High School. After returning from serving for 32 months, Jack moved to Port Arthur and went to work at Gulf Oil refinery. He retired in 1984 as an operator after 36 1/2 years of service.

Jack was a member of First Baptist Church Groves and Men's Sunday School Class Adult 1. He was a member of VFW Post 4820 and Groves Volunteer Fire Department retiree.

Beyond his service to church and country, Jack was best known for the time he spent in his woodworking shop. His cedar swings, chairs, and world famous back scratchers made from Groves grown black walnuts.

Jack loved his family and he will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Allen of Groves; three daughters, Jill Geltz and husband Milton of Shreveport, LA, Jan Teufel and husband Mike of Lafayette, LA, and Judy Resweber of Groves, TX; six grandchildren, Carolyn Sharma and husband Sanjay, Jeffrey Teufel, Laura Brock and husband Evan, Meredith Geltz, Daniel Resweber and wife Kasie, and Jason Resweber; two great-grandchildren, Abigail Brock and Eli Resweber.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 15, 2014 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Dr. Joe Worley and Reverend Charles Miller officiating. Military Graveside service conducted by VFW Post 4820 will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. back to top
