Jack L. Walker
Jack L. Walker, 73, of Zion died on Thursday, June 27, 2002 at Provena St. Therese Medical Center, Waukegan.
Jack was born November 9, 1928 in Clara, Mississippi, came to Waukegan in the early 1950's and moved to Zion in 1967 after living in various Lake County locations.
He was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad as a Switchman for many years in the early 1950's and later went to work as a Carpenter for Civil Service at both Great Lakes and Ft. Sheridan, retiring as a Planner/Estimator there.
After his retirement, he drove bus for both the Beach Park School system and Zion-Benton Township High School.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Air Force and he enjoyed spending time with his family and with his vegetable garden.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Joanne; three children, Cindy Walker, Howard Walker and Susie (Tim) Powell all of Zion; four beloved grandchildren, Amanda, Alyssa, Dallas Joanne and Jack; two brothers, Fred (Nell) Walker of Jacksonville, Florida and Grady Walker; a sister, Eula Mae Rutledge of Brooksville, Florida; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jack (Vi) Barnes of Waukegan, Desiree (Don) Shebesta of California and Sally (Bernie) Baldi of Tracy, California.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Phillip and Willie Eula Walker; and by six brothers.
Cemetery Committal Services will be held on Monday, July 1, 2002 at 11 AM in the Chapel at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, 1436 Kenosha Road, Zion with Rev. M. Jim Fisher, Chaplain, Vista Health Care, officiating.
