Dr. Jack L. Nance
September 20, 1931 - November 9, 2015

Dr. Jack L. Nance, of Amarillo died on Monday, November 9, 2015 in Tucson, AZ. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm, Monday, November 16, 2015 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Minister Vernon Haller officiating. Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Dr. Jack L. Nance earned a Bachelor's degree at Bethany Southern Nazarene University, a Master's degree from Southern Methodist University and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership at the University of Oklahoma. He had a long and rewarding career including Assistant Superintendent of Schools in El Reno, OK; Professor of Education at East Central University in Ada, OK; and Professor of Education at West Texas A&M University in Canyon where he retired in 1999. Jack was also a business entrepreneur as he was the owner of the Dairy King in El Reno. He was instrumental in setting up a speech and hearing clinic in Ada. He was a consultant for the Texas Education Agency on multicultural education and he set up the Center for Cooperative Learning in the College of Education at WTAMU. Jack was also co-owner of JN Townhomes property development and residential construction company. Jack raised registered Angus cattle and Arabian horses and was the past president of the Oklahoma Arabian Horse Association. He was instrumental in getting the first major Arabian Horse show to come to Oklahoma City. Jack was a stained glass artist and enjoyed Corvettes, biking and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Peat Nance; a daughter, Nina Renee Barbee of Norman, OK; a son, Kirk David Nance of Woodbridge, VA; a brother, Dwight W. Nance of Westminister, CA; a granddaughter, Brittney Nance McCoy of Amarillo; two grandsons, Brian Barbee of Oklahoma City and Dylan Nance of Woodbridge, VA; three great grandsons, Dalton, Ramsey and Rowdy ; a nephew, Jack W. Nance; a niece, Sharla Lehmann; and his beloved dog Ransom.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Lymphoma Research Fund at the University of Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson, AZ.
