AMBOY - Jack R. Hanes, 69, 310 E. Mill St., died at 4:10 a.m. Wednesday at home

He was born in Roscoe, Texas, to the late Elmon and Ethel (Woody) Hanes. He married Deloryse McWhirter on Feb. 5, 1987, in Dallas. She survives.

Mr. Hanes retired in 1998 as a truck driver for Central Pride Park of Dallas after 35 years. After moving to Amboy in 1998, he worked for Oak Hill United School Corp. as a special education bus aide. Sadly, he recently resigned because of illness. He enjoyed fishing, reading, watching football, auto racing, working in his garden, sitting on the porch and taking his dog, Chopper, for long walks.

Also surviving are a son, Don, Point, Texas; two daughters, Vicki Grubbs and Debra Alwell, both of Point; stepchildren, Lucille Nettleton and Max Schaack, both of Amboy, and Tim (Shiela) Schaack, Dallas; a sister, Zelma, Hutchins, Texas; a sister-in-law, Frances, Dallas; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by an aunt, Arlie Smith, who raised him; two brothers, Elmer and Don Gene; and a sister, Fairy Cloe.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Saturday in Park Lawn Cemetery.

There is no visitation.
