Taunton Funeral Is Today

JONESVILLE -- Funeral services for Jack Taunton Sr., 71, former Jonesville police chief, were at 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church here with the Rev. J. A. McNair officiating.

Burial was in the Coleman Cemetery in Manifest under direction of Young's Funeral Home here. He died Sunday at his residence after a brief illness.

Mr. Taunton was also a retired farmer and the father of Jack Taunton Jr., a present member of the Catahoula Parish Police Jury.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Eunice Taunton of Jonesville; three sons, Jack Taunton Jr. and Joe Taunton, both of Jonesville and Jimmy Taunton of Dubach; two daughters, Mrs. Georgie McClure of Jonesville and Mrs. Jean Harris of Oak Grove; three stepsons, Walter Wilkerson of High Point, N.C.; Lloyd Wilkerson of Texarkana, Tex. and Otto Wilkerson of Lebanon, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Lucille Smith of Wildsville; three brothers, Oliver Taunton of Jonesville, Thompson Taunton of Ferriday and Dock Taunton of Vidalia; two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Bass of Jonesville and Mrs. Ethel Pool of Ferriday; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
