JACKSON VAN DORN GANDY, of Waynesboro. Wayne County, Mississippi, was born November 28, 1876, at Shubuta, Miss., the son of Evan Gandy and wife, Martha (Watts) Gandy. His grandfather was a native of South Carolina who served in the Confederate army throughout the Civil War. Mr. Gandy obtained his early education in the country schools of Wayne County; attended Eucutta High School for five years, after which he taught several years. In 1908, he was elected Superintendent of Education for Wayne County, serving four years; on November 7, 1911, was elected Representative in the State Legislature, where he served his constituents capably and faithfully. He is a member of the Baptist Church, a Mason, a Woodman of the World, and a member of the Knights and Ladies of Security. On May 30, 1900, at Eucutta, Miss., he was married to Jettie Lillian Hudson. Mr. and Mrs. Gandy have seven children: Eaton Bowers, Walter Joseph, Henry Grady, Vivian, Maurine, Maurice, and Jackson Van Dorn, Jr.. Mr. Gandy was elected Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives, in January, 1916. In the discharge of his official duty he is faithful, courteous and efficient.
