Funeral Services Held For Mr. James A. Rice
Mr. James A. Rice of West Blocton, was stricken with a heart attack at a
Doctor's office about noon last Wednesday and died a few minutes later.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Friday afternoon at the Lowerytown
Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Fred Graham and Thomas Brock officiating.
The Church Choir sang with Mrs. Luster Jones at the piano.
Mr. Rice was born February 11, 1899 and passed away August 26, 1953. He
was a member and deacon of Lowerytown Missionary Baptist Church, and for the
past several years Superintendent of the Sunday School. He was a member of
West Blocton Civitan Club and was engaged in the mercantile business in West
Blocton. He spent the greater portion of his life in this community and will be
greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Kate Morse Rice, one sister, Mrs. T. O. Jones,
Woodstock and two brothers, Mr. Roscoe Rice, Woodstock and Mr. Carlton Rice,
Clanton.
Pallbearers were Clarence Rice, Paul Rice, Rev. Macon Pope, Bill Brown,
Murphy Reach, and Ed Sewell, Jr.
The beautiful floral offering was a tribute to the esteem in which he was held.
Interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
