James Allen Dunn, 72, retired managing underwriter and resident of Columbia, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at First Family Baptist Church with Rev. David Simmerman and Rev. Billy Kimbrough officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday after 2:00 P.M. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements.

Born January 17, 1940, he was the son of the late John Russell Dunn and Alberta McCarty Dunn. He was a graduate of Oklahoma University and a certified Master Gardener. Mr. Dunn was retired from Traveler's Insurance Company. He was an active and faithful member of First Family Baptist Church and a fun-loving family man. Jim had an exceptional fondness for his three grandchildren and his daughter Amy.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Thyra Jean Richardson Dunn of Columbia; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Philip Carter of Tipton, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Ronin Carter, Kai Carter, and Ren Carter; and one sister, Viola Cannon of Maryland.
He was preceded in death by one brother, John Dunn and one sister, Betty York, both of Oklahoma.
